Culture and Technology
Hominid civilization on Hypho is trans-industrial technologically but culturally diverse. Nations are small and change is slow amid the islands. While dangers are numerous on Hypho and its oceans, most humans and dwarves live comfortably in well protected regions. Electricity and similar phenomena do not work in Permadus, but magic fills similar roles, lighting homes and healing wounds. Cities typically have running water, hospitals, minimum wages, and other amenities.
Occupants of less fortunate islands may have to contend with the environment, crueler governance, and monsters both mundane and magical. Famine, at least, is almost unheard of; the vast oceans of Hypho provide a bountiful surplus of food for land dwellers.
The vast majority of islands aren’t occupied at all – humans and dwarves take up only a tiny space on Hypho. Their cities may be grand, but are rarely sprawling. Goblins are much more common, but even more islands are ruled only by wilderness.
